The greatest battle you will ever fight is the battle to be Unique. It is a battle in which the entire world will marshal its every force against you to keep you the same; and the battle never ends.

“If you want uncommon results, you have to think and do uncommon things.”

We have been told that “quitters never win,” right? That is faulty logic.

That means that if you are a smoker and you quit you are a loser; if you are an alcoholic and you quit drinking you are a loser; if you are obese and you quit eating McDonalds, Snickers and potato chips, once again you are a loser…

Think!

There is a time and a place to push forward and hustle; and there is a time to quit. And the objective of this post is to help you become a quitter.

Now hold on; Take a deep breath; become what I call a “Strategic Quitter.”

Many need to become better quitters. Strategic quitters! Quit doing the things that you are not meant to do. If you do not have the potential to become great at it you should not be wasting your life chasing it.

Becoming a strategic quitter takes courage and is not about giving up or unwilling to confront the battle and do the work necessary to bring their unique greatness and gifts to the world.

Those who give up and quit because it is hard, or it takes too long – they sell out and sell themselves short. Strategic quitting is about realizing that the thing you are pursuing might not be “your thing.” Not because it is hard; not because it is a struggle; but because it might not be “Your Purpose.”

Amateurs do their best to avoid struggle. The amateur wants an easier life, always attempting to avoid hard work and the struggle to become great.

The Master does what it takes and gets the job done. Masters understand that struggle is a part of it. As long as the struggle you are experiencing utilizes your inherent abilities and aligns with your unique purpose.

But you have to make sure you are being authentic. You have to make sure that you have found your unique genius; and then, and only then, do you settle in for the long haul.

Are you struggling, stuck or stalled right now?

Your current struggle could be the result of two things:

  • You have found your genius, your personal purpose, and you just need to settle in for the long game. Embrace the struggle. Set your mind, commit, and get busy.
  • You are attempting to follow some romanticized pipe dream that you have been programmed to chase by the masses? Are you following the money versus the meaning; and you need to strategically quit. And fast!

“I hated every minute of the training, but I said, “Don’t quit.” Suffer now andLive the rest of your life as a champion.” ~ Muhammad Ali

It is in the struggle that potential greatness is born. Whether it is the butterfly wrestling from the cocoon or the chick pecking its way through the egg or the snake shredding its old tired skin or you yourself push forth from your mother’s womb.

New birth is a struggle.

Yet on the other side of that struggle is where beauty, greatness and new life are born. This is where your breakthrough resides. It is in the struggle that potential greatness is born. Nothing great ever came fast and easy – ever.

One of the smartest things you can possibly do is practice what I call “Strategic Quitting.” Quit wasting your time on things that are not your thing, to make time for your “One Thing.”

Now go to work!
